Mysore Lancers WW1- missing Honour Roll at Bangalore and New Delhi Memorials


The following list of Mysore Lancers Group, who were martyred in Middle East in WW1,  did not find a place in the Honour Roll display at Bangalore and New Delhi Memorials.

Major. C . Desraj Urs,    "4 Hodson's Horse" .   1965   war. This  is  only reference available of an Ursu Officer, who fought in the 1965 War with Pakistan. Here it is summarised, with as musch of  the important facts, as are available. Rajkumar Chikka Desraj Urs, son of   Rajkumar. P.B.Desaraj Urs and Rajkumari Lakshammanni   Desaraj Urs, was born on 16th June 1928. After his formal education, he did not join Mysore lancers, but,  was commissioned to   the "4th Horse", of the Indian Army { 4th Horse was earlier known  as Hodson’s Horse . Hodson's Horse is a cavalry regiment which originated as part of the British Indian Army. It was raised by Brevet Major William Stephen Raikes Hodson during the Indian Freedom Struggle of 1857, and exists today as the 4th Horse Regiment in the Indian Army. Captain. Zorawar Singh    MC   of   Bhavnagar Lancers    in Mysore Lancers Group. WW1   (Photo: Vijay Raol)   He was a member of the Bhavnagar princely family of “Gohil”, the famous ruling dynasty of Bhavnagar. at Kathiawad.    The details of his childhood, parents and educational details are not available, I am straight   away reporting about his professional career. He started as the second Commandant of   Bhavnagar Lancers in 1905, after a suggestion by Lord Curzon, who had seen him as   the topper of his batch,   in Imperial Cadet Corps.   He became a   King’s Commissioned Indian Officer (KCIO).   He attended the Coronation ceremony in 1911, and was appointed as an Honorary Aide-de-camp to the Viceroy .   The same year , during the Imperial Visit to India, Lt.   Ramesh Sakharam Benegal.   MVC.AVSM  (09 October 1926- ? April 2003) Ramesh Sakharam Benegal was born on 9 October 1926 in Rangoon, Burma, which was then part of undivided British India to Shri Benegal Sakharam Rao and his wife Kalyani. He was the youngest of his family, with two elder brothers, Dinaker and Sumitra. While in high school, he was an enthusiastic member of the Boy scouts organisation. In his youth, during the Second World War, Benegal joined the Indian National Army(Azad Hind) and was chosen to join the Tokyo Boys to train as a fighter pilot. He went on to attend the Imperial Japanese Army /Air Force Academy in 1944. However, before he could complete his training and join active operations, the war ended. Held as a prisoner of war after the fall of Japan, Benegal was released in 1946. In May 1950, he joined the Patna flying club to learn flying and earn a commercial flying license.
