Indian Descent- US born  Krishna Urs,   US Amabassador to Peru


His full name is Krishna Raj Urs. Son of Late Dr. Venkataramaraj S. Urs. M.Sc,M.S, Ph.D and Late Harriet Helen Zimmerman .

Urs was born in Cheshire, Connecticut, USA. He is of Indian descent and a US Christian.

Urs graduated from Cheshire High School in 1976 before attending Georgetown University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in foreign service in 1980. Urs spent his junior year of college studying abroad in Quito, Ecuador, South America . He received a master's degree in international economics from the University of Texas in 1985.

Urs, who is about 65 years old, has two brothers Dr. Walter Krishna Urs (deceased Orthopaedic Surgeon) and Jeff Urs and a sister Kamala Urs(62). He is married to Denise Ann  Urs, also a Foreign Service Officer, (65) and has two children    Kathryn Kamala Urs and David Raja Urs,

Urs has served as a career diplomat for the United States since 1986. He has completed diplomatic posts in Mexico , the Dominican Republic, Peru, Nicaragua, and Bangladesh. He has also served as the Pakistan Desk Officer for the United States Department of State and worked for the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs., etc...etc…

He is a Foreign Service Officer with extensive experience managing large Missions overseas and units in the Department of State. In 30 yrs with the U.S. Government, he has served mainly in Latin America and South Asia, as well as in Washington and in Europe.

Speaks excellent Spanish, working Knowledge of Hindi and some Telugu, no touch with Kannada.

Urs was confirmed by the United States Senate as the next United States Ambassador Extra-0rdinary and Plenipotentiary to Peru in August 2017. He had been nominated to the position in June 2017 by President Donald Trump. On Wednesday, October 25, 2017,  Krishna R. Urs officially began serving as the United States Ambassador to Peru

In March 2020, amidst the coronavirus pandemic , Urs departed Peru due to what the embassy called "medical concerns" while American citizens were still stranded in the country. A different State Department official was then dispatched to Peru to oversee the repatriation of U.S. citizens stranded in Peru.
