Sub.Major M.Kemparaj Urs." Bahadur" Mysore Infantry: 3rd Bn , Post WW I

Sub.Major  M.Kemparaj Urs. Bahadur Mysore Infantry:  3rd Bn,( Post WW I)

Late Shri Kempa Raj Urs, was the son of Dodda Basava R;aj Urs and Chennajammanni., Kemparaj Urs was another Mysore Urs, who joined the Mysore Infantry, in its 3rd Battalion  on 05 August 1919.  (Shri Basava Raj Urs and another sibling, were the brothers of Kempa Raj Urs.}    The 3rd Bn, of Mysore Infantry was earmarked for duties at Mysore  with detachment at  Shimoga..

Information about  his basic education, his interest and other  details are not available. Whatever information available is  passed on to me, by his grandson  Shri Udaybhaskar raj Urs, else,  the service contributions of Late Kemaparaj Urs,  to the Maharaja of Mysore through  the   Mysore Infantry, would have gone  un-noticed.

Though he began his service as a Sepoy, in the 3rd Bn of Mysore Infantry, his hard work,  got him the promotion as Jemadar on 15th April 1931.  He  raced up the ladder to become a Subedar in 1940.  He continued his hard work, but, was not keeping good health. Inspite of that, because of his hard work and a good name earned,  he was promoted as Subedar Major in 1943.   His address at Mysore was  625, Balaram Prasad Road, Nazarbad, Mysore. He had married the hard working and well educated Savithrammanni  Urs.  They were blessed with three children, and  the ill health of Kemparaj Urs  continued and  he had frequent  hospitalisations.  He was working as a Recruiting  Officer  and Provisions Collector.  Inspite of  all the hard work he did , and  the  good name  he had, his ill health overtook ending in  the untimely death  on  10 January 1948.    His hard work, sincerity and integrity got him  the  Order of British India (2nd Class) “OBI”  with the Title of “Bahadur”  on 12th June 1947  vide mention in the  Extraordinary Gazette of India dated 12.06.1947, just before the Indian Independance.

He left behind a serving wife Savithrammanni with three small children to look after.

They were s/shri.M.K.Desha Raj Urs, M.K. Subrahmanya Raj Urs and M.K. Veera Raj Urs. S/Shri Basava Raj Urs and another were the brothers of Kempa Raj Urs.   She  had  lots of problems with the meagre  family pension and her own earnings, to manage the livelihood, schooling and bringing up of these children. Her persistence and perseverance in corresponding for an increase of family pension,  with the Commanding Officer of  3 Bn Mysore Infantry at Bangalore, succeeded at last.   She , through her hard work rose to become the Principal of the Ursu Girls High School, Mysore, at the time of her retirement.
