Major. B.S.Nanjaraje Urs. (1947 -2002) Indian Army. 164 Field Regiment Artillery
His full name: Bevinamaradadoddi. Siddaraj Urs. Nanjaraje Urs.
He was born on 16th March 1947, as the only son of Sri Siddaraj Urs, who retired as the Police Inspector In-charge, of Halasuru Police Station of Bangalore. Both Siddaraj Urs and son Nanjaraje Urs, belonged to Bevinamarada Doddi in Kanakapura.
Sri Nanjaraje Urs
joined the Officers Training Academy (OTA) at Chennai in 1969 and was
commissioned to “164 Field Regiment” of Artillery. He was married on 10th May 1973 to Ms Radha Urs. He has two children daughter Smt Arathi Urs and son Anil Urs.
He has fought
in the 1971 War in both the Eastern and Western fronts. He was the
OP officer who was always with the forward troops fighting the
battle. He was awarded the prestigious medals , which are, ”Poorvi
Star" and " Pashchimi Star".
He also took active part in the "Operation Bluestar". The other medals he has are the 9 years and 20 years long service medals and 50 years of Independence Medal, High Altitude Service Medal , OP Rakshak and J&K Service Medal.
He took premature retirement in 1989 due to health issues. He passed away in 2002.
His tradition of bravery and courage is continued by his famous son Major. Anil Urs, who won the Shaurya Chakra in the year 2020 in Kashmir.

The Poorvi Star medal is given to Indian military personnel who served in Bangladesh during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Pashchimi Star was a medal awarded to members of the Indian armed forces for participation on the Western borders of India during the India-Pakistan War of 1971
Five-pointed 40 mm gilt copper (for Poorvi Star) and Bronze (for Paschmi Star) star imposed on a circle, with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the Ashokan Lions above the Indian National motto ‘सत्यमेव जयते’ (Satyameva Jayate = Truth Alone Prevails) in Hindi characters within a ring inscribed in Hindi ‘Poorvi Star’ and ‘POORVI STAR’; The naming details are impressed in the center of the plain reverse, for example ‘1993490 SPR S BOSE BOMBAY ENGR GP’ (SPR =Sapper); . The Star was instituted shortly after the war with Pakistan that took place from 3 to 16 December 1971 and was awarded for active service on the front with eastern Pakistan, Poorvi being the Hindi word for ‘Eastern’.
In the domed circular center, the national emblem with the surrounding legend "PASHCHIMI STAR / Pashchimi Star Hindi". . Suspended by a ring. Reverse: The naming details are impressed in the center of the plain reverse. The Star was instituted shortly after the war with Pakistan that took place from 3 to 16 December 1971 and was awarded for active service on the front with Western Sector Borders, Pashchimi being the Hindi word for ‘Western.
