Smt Sharada C.Urs in Guinness World Records.                    V2.0

The world records created by individual or groups, in terms of the longest, shortest, biggest, smallest, etc.. all in superlatives , are checked and credited by one authority which is the Guinness Book of Records.  ( www.guinnessworldrecords.com) The Guinness Book of World Records, is a reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world.    A similar set up is there by Limca Book of Records for Indian citizens.

On 10 November 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver, then the managing director of the Guinness Breweries, went on a shooting party in the North Slob, by the River Slaney in County Wexford, Ireland. After missing a shot at a golden plover, he became involved in an argument over which was the fastest game bird in Europe, the golden plover or the red grouse – it is the plover. That evening at Castlebridge House,

Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records and in previous United States editions as The Guinness Book of World Records, is a reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world.  Originally published: 1955;  Author and editor : Craig Glenday ; Publisher: Jim Pattison Group; Country: United Kingdom ; Original languages: Korean, Persian, Tagalog.

As the world's unrivalled authority on record-breaking achievement, our role is to celebrate the world's best, to inspire ordinary people and to entertain and inform. For these reasons, we do not pay record-breakers for their achievements or for carrying out a record title attempt.

However,  there is no prize for setting or breaking a Guinness World Records. Even expenses incurred by the participants are not covered by the Guinness World Records. However,  one complimentary record holder certificate is sent by the organization.

Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records and in previous United States editions as The Guinness Book of World Records. The brainchild of Sir Hugh Beaver, the book was co-founded by twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter in Fleet Street, London, in August 1954.

The book itself holds a world record, as the best-selling copyrighted book of all time.  As of the 2019 edition, it is now in its 64th year of publication, published in 100 countries and 23 languages (including Tamil, but not Hindi), and maintains over 53,000 records in its database. The international franchise has extended beyond print to include television series and museums. The popularity of the franchise has resulted in Guinness World Records becoming the primary international authority on the cataloguing and verification of a huge number of world records. The organisation employs official record adjudicators authorised to verify the authenticity of the setting and breaking of records.

The list of records which the Guinness World Records covers is not fixed, records may be added and also removed for various reasons. The public are invited to submit applications for records, which can be either the bettering of existing records or substantial achievements which could constitute a new record. The company also provides corporate services for companies to "harness the power of record-breaking to deliver tangible success for their businesses."

I am happy to post here the entry of Smt. Sharada C.Urs,  in one of the group activities, and achieving the Guinness record. This is the first time ever an Urs Lady has achieved distinction, of which we are proud of. We wish many other Urs women take to the activity  in her guidance and  we like to see an Ursu Women Group, to aim for an Indian Record first and to go ahead for the World Class.

More details about Smt Sharada C.Urs, and the MICQ  are given below:

Mrs Sharada Chandra Shekhara Raj Urs ,is  from Mysuru. She  has been  part of two Guinness World Records in the ancient art of Crochet, through a Public Trust named Mother India’s Crochet Queens (MICQ), registered with the Government of Tamil Nadu with members spread across the globe. She leads the Karnataka faction of this organization as the Goodwill Ambassador.

She is a freelance Verbal and Soft Skills Trainer by profession and a guest faculty at Karnataka Police Academy.

She is  the daughter of Smt Manjula C Urs and Sri B C Channaraj Urs (Retd Prof and HOD of Civil Dept, SJCE, Mysuru). Her husband, Sri H Chandra Shekhara Raj Urs is a business man. She is  the daughter- in- law of Smt Komala Krishne Urs and Late Sri H C Krishne Urs (High Court Advocate and Retd Principal, Corporation College for Women, Bangalore). She is the Granddaughter of Late Smt Indira Lakshammanni and Late Sri H S Mallaraj Urs (Retd DC) on the maternal side, and Late Smt Devajammanni (Akkammanni) and Late Sri B V Channaraj Urs (Retd Superintendent Engineer, PWD) on the paternal side.

She feels proud to say that one of her great grandfathers was Late Col. B P Krishne Urs one of the Haifa Heroes from our community and also the co-brother of Yuvaraja Shri Kantirava Narasimharaja Wadiyar. Another great grandfather was Late Sri H Subbaraj Urs (Head meshtru), one of the founder members of Ursu Mandali Sangha, Mysuru.

Her  incredible journey with MICQ began in 2017 when she joined the organization with the intent of getting a Guinness World Record. The journey continued with her being appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador of Karnataka in 2018. And since then, there’s been no looking back. She  has taken part in the 2 Guinness World Record projects since the day she joined. She was one of the top individual contributors for the latest Guinness World Record with 1222 Christmas decorations. She  has a great team aged 11 – 80 years who are super active in their contributions to all MICQ projects.

She  would be very happy if more women from our community could join our organization and contribute their little bit to the society. Nothing can be achieved easily and nothing comes free in this world. Pople have to keep looking for opportunities and jump at them if they want to achieve something in life.

An introduction of MICQ

MICQ was conceived by Ms Subashri Natarajan of Chennai, on August 1st 2015, with a vision to retrieve the art of crochet and an aim to break the previous Guinness World Record for the Largest Crochet Blanket which was 3377 sq mts. MICQ broke the record. The blanket, made by more than 2,000 Indian women from all over the world, measured 11,148 square metres. On 21st May 2017, they set a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest crocheted scarf - 14,089 kilometres in total. Then came their Hat trick Guinness World Record break. They broke the previous record of 13,348 crochet sculptures by 58,917 crochet sculptures, which is 4.5 times more than the previous one, in the Largest Display of Crochet 3D sculptures at SRM University campus, Chennai on Jan 21st 2018. All the items made for these records were donated to various charities.

After  the Hat Trick records, they decided to work on a project which is not meant for any record but a totally selfless service to the Indian Army, “RETURN WITH THANKS TO INDIAN BRAVE BROTHERS”. More than 3,000 warm caps and cowls were handed over to the authorities at an event held at Ahmedabad Army Cantonment in November 2018.

MOTHER INDIA’S CROCHET QUEENS (MICQ) entered their name into the prestigious Guinness Book of World Records for the fourth time by breaking a record for the Largest Display of crocheted Christmas Decorations on Sunday, the 15th of September at a gala event held at T P Ganeshan auditorium in SRM University campus in Chennai. The previous record was set by Woman’s Weekly of UK in 2014 with 4,416 crocheted Christmas Decorations. MICQ broke this record with a whopping 66,158 crocheted Christmas Decorations.. 38 members of the Karnataka faction of MICQ contributed a whopping 13,262 crocheted Christmas Decorations  and stood 2nd in area-wise contributions next to Tamil Nadu in this stupendous success of MICQ.

Apart from these, the MICQians have done many donations for cancer patients at St Jude’s Mumbai and Ahmedabad Cancer Hospital. There are continuous donation projects going on like caps for old age homes and orphanages and newborn baby kits for newborn babies of underprivileged parents. The projects which are about to be completed include warm ponchos for tribal kids at Nagpur and warm scarves for our brave brothers.
