The Guinness World record for the most doctorates in one family is seven by the children of Shri Ramanna Bhimappa and Smt Parvatibai R. Sonnad of Bhantanur, Karnatak, India, from institutions in both India and USA between 1970 and 1994. It is not a common occasion in the annals of education, when two family members, obtain academic recognition at the same time. Be it a father-son duo, mother-daughter duo, or a brothers duo, brother-sister duo, or sisters duo, etc, At this moment, the combination of father-son duo is in the lime light.
In one of the rare instances, a
father-son duo - PK Sharma and Karan Sharma - of Panchkula, Haryana, have
completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees together and that too from
the same faculty of the same university. According to a report in The Tribune,
62-year-old PK Sharma is a retired Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer and is
currently re-employed as Secretary of the State Election Commission and his 35-year-old
son is Assistant Advocate General with the Haryana Government. They were on the
cloud nine when the Law Department of Chaudhry Devi Lal University (CLDU),
Sirsa, notified their doctorate degrees earlier this year 2018. From far way Haryana, let us visit Mysore, the city of Palace, Education, Research, and many others.
The 100th Convocation of the University of Mysore held on 19th October 2020, is unique for the Ursu community. A memorable, historic event of a “ father and son” duo of Ursu Community, getting their “ Doctor of Philosophy” degrees in this Convocation, in the Management Science., from the same guide Dr. S.V.Somanath. They belong to the small village of Sindhuvalli, on the Nanjanagud-Gundlupet Road, Nanjanagud Taluk.
Father, Shri. Nagakrishna Raje Urs, completed his “Master of Science”, in 1980. Joined the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd., of the Mysore Sandal Soap fame, at Bangalore and retired in 2017. Even before retirement, he had his Masters Degree in Business Administration, through distance education, from the Sikkim Manipal University in 2010. Son, Shri M.N.Pramu Kumar Raje Urs,B.Com, completed his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania State, USA., also in 2010.
Then, started the parallel streaming of the duo, and they wanted to go a step higher, this time together, and then, they registered for their Ph.D, with guide Dr V.S.Somanath in the year 2016. The Community is seeing the duo, achieving their goal in the year 2020. ( Coincidence here : Approximate ages of father and son duo, same field, same University, etc. are almost similar in the above Haryana and Mysore University cases)
Dr. M.N. Pramu Kumar Raje Urs. 35, submitted his thesis on “ Study
